đź’Ť 10 Personal Touches That Made Our Wedding Unforgettable
When we started planning our wedding, one thing was crystal clear: it had to feel like us. We wanted every detail to reflect our personalities, our humor, and the love we share—not just follow tradition for tradition’s sake. So we kept what felt meaningful, skipped what didn’t, and created a day full of joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
Thanks to the amazing team at our venue, everything came together beautifully. Here are the top 10 things we did that made our wedding truly special:
1. Attended the Venue’s Open House

We went to the Tasting Night at the venue and left brimming with inspiration. From the layout to the florals to the DIY ideas, it was a goldmine. We especially loved the alternating round and farm tables in the grand hall—so unique! We recreated that look for our reception, and it turned out to be one of our favorite design choices.
2. Hosted Group DIY Parties
Leading up to the big day, we threw a few DIY parties with friends and family. It was fun, collaborative, and made everyone feel involved. We crafted favors, centerpieces, and even personalized bouquets—each bridesmaid created her own as a keepsake. It added a personal touch and made the process feel joyful.
3. Did a First Look Before the Ceremony

We chose to do our first look and formal photos before the ceremony, and it was perfect. It gave us time to soak in the moment without rushing, and we got to enjoy more of the cocktail hour with our guests. Plus, I was worried about crying off my makeup—so this timing worked out beautifully!
4. Personalized Our Ceremony
Instead of hiring a professional officiant, we asked my sister to marry us. She’s incredibly special to both of us, and her humor and warmth made the ceremony unforgettable. We wrote the script together and included our own vows—there wasn’t a dry eye in the house, and plenty of laughter too.
5. Added Custom Signs Throughout the Venue
We had fun creating signs that guided guests through the day—from welcome messages to photo prompts and signature drink suggestions. It felt like narrating our love story in real time and added a playful, personal vibe to the celebration.

6. Kept the Wedding Party Intimate

Instead of a large wedding party, we kept it close-knit with just my sisters, nieces, and nephews. It felt more meaningful and less chaotic, and their presence added so much warmth and familiarity to the day.
7. Open-Mic Toasts
I was hesitant at first, but open-mic toasts turned out to be one of the highlights of the night. With help from our DJ, everything ran smoothly—and the speeches were heartfelt, hilarious, and totally unexpected. Our 12-year-old niece even gave a toast that had everyone in tears.
8. T-Shirt Toss Instead of Bouquet Toss

We skipped the traditional bouquet and garter toss and did a custom t-shirt toss instead! We designed wedding-themed shirts and threw them out to guests—it was a hit. People were still talking about it days later, and some even asked for extras!
9. Used Faux Flowers for Bouquets & Decor

We opted for faux flowers, and it was one of the best decisions we made. They looked stunning, saved us money, and became lasting keepsakes for our guests. People were genuinely surprised they weren’t real—and loved taking them home.
10. Made It Our Own
Above all, we stayed true to ourselves. We didn’t follow every wedding “rule,” and that made the day feel even more special. With Wedgewood Weddings’ support, we brought our vision to life—and our guests couldn’t stop raving about how personal and joyful the celebration was.
Looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing. Our wedding was a reflection of who we are, and every detail felt intentional and full of love. If you’re planning your own celebration, don’t be afraid to break the mold. Embrace what feels right for you—your guests will feel the difference, and you’ll cherish every moment…
